Ah, what's in a name? We've had a lot of questions about the name "Seven Springs," so we decided to devote a whole page just to tell the story. In the beginning...no, seriously, coming up with a name for a church can be very challenging. We didn't want to go with the new fads for church names, nor did we want to pull up names that are 150 years old, so we just had a real hard time coming up with a name. We batted around names, wrote lists, sent emails, had phone conversations, but nothing seemed to stick or it had already been taken. Leonard wanted something that linked with Shelby County's abundance of streams, creeks, rivers, and lakes. One former resident claimed that you could drive 1 mile in any direction in Shelby County and find water.

So, one day, A.J. Smith, one of our first elders, mentioned the idea of "Seven Wells" or "Seven Springs" from the Old Testament name Beersheba (beer-well or spring and sheba-seven) as in Genesis 21:33--Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba and called there on the name of the Lord, the Everlasting God." It stuck, and thus the name, Seven Springs Church. We think it's a great name!
